Our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) are listed below. Please review them for any possible inquiries you may have. Thank you!
- What are the areas of evaluation that CORE uses to determine their scholarship recipients?
We evaluate each applicant holistically but there are three key areas of evaluation. They are:
(1) Your personal story, which takes into account financial need and other compelling challenges the applicant has had to endure;
(2) extra-curricular involvement, which includes anything you do outside of class like community involvement, work, and clubs; and
(3) Your academic promise, which is not limited to GPA or test scores but, more importantly, looks at your academic potential for the future.
- Is your scholarship open to students outside of California?
- Yes. Our scholarship is open to all states in the U.S. including Puerto Rico.
- When is the deadline for the Fourth Annual Que Llueva Café scholarship?
All applications must be postmarked by February 23, 2013. Late submissions will not be accepted.
- Is your scholarship open to college students?
No. Applicants for our "Que Llueva Café" Scholarship may not be current college students. Applicants must be or will be a high school/GED graduate who will enroll for the first time in an accredited college or university in the U.S. or Puerto Rico.
- Will you be offering this scholarship every year?
It is our goal to offer this scholarship each year
- When will the recipients be notified?
Depending on the number of applications we receive, it is our intention to make a decision on recipients and notify them all by June. This may change dependent on number of applications we receive.
- Will I receive a notification that my scholarship application was received?
No. Given the large volume of applications we receive and our limited resources, we are unable to notify every applicant that their application was received or the status of their application.
- How will I know if I am a scholarship recipient?
All recipients will be notified via a phone call. Once all recipients have been notified and confirmed, we will post an announcement on our home page of this notification. Additionally, and depending on volume of applications, we will make an attempt to email our regrets to all applicants that did not receive the scholarship. Hence, if you do not receive a phone call informing you that you got the scholarship, then you did get it.
- How many scholarships have you awarded?
First Year: 14 scholarships totaling $7,000
Second Year: 18 scholarships totaling $9,000
Third Year: 30 scholarships totaling $15,000
Fourth Year: 30 scholarships totaling $15,000

This Scholarship was founded with the intent of providing a direct response to what is an unfair immigration system that continues to deprive aspiring new scholars from continuing their education in the only country they have ever known, the U.S. As such, we find it imperative to provide a scholarship that attempts to alleviate the enormous financial burden of going to college until comprehensive immigration reform is passed and implemented in this country.
CORE proudly sponsors this scholarship to help undocumented students continue on their academic path. This scholarship is a response to the lack of financial assistance provided to students, who do not have the legal documentation, that attend college in the United States. In particular, we seek to support undocumented students that have met the rigorous academic requirements asked of them and hold the academic promise to achieve so much more.
The “Que Llueva Café” Scholarship aims to support the dreams, hopes and aspirations of college bound undocumented students so that they can earn their college education and allow for all of their hard work and sacrifice to persevere. This scholarship program strives to make a world of difference. ¡Ójala que llueva café!
